Our Ultimate Guide and Reviews on Weed Lighters
You’re about to light up a joint, but there’s a problem: your weed lighter just gave out. No flame, no fun. Instead of enjoying your night, you have to make a trip to the gas station to buy another Bic. What a bummer.
But there’s a solution – and that’s likely why you’re here. Get a better weed lighter! Consider one that doesn’t even use fuel (yes, those exist). There are plenty of affordable options available.
Before we dive into those, let’s address the obvious issue.
Lighters vs. Matches
Alright, folks, let’s settle a classic debate: lighters or matches? It’s like the Coke vs. Pepsi of the smoking world. Both have die-hard fans, and the debate is far from over.
Personally, I’m Team Lighter all the way, and here’s why. First off, they’re ridiculously easy to use. Open, click, flame. Done. Matches? You’ve got to strike them just right, and if you mess up, you have to start all over again. Honestly, who has time for that?
On a more serious note, lighters outlast matches by a mile. Even those that use lighter fluid or butane can keep going for months unless you’re a heavy user. Plus, they’re compact and portable, perfect for slipping into your pocket or bag.

Now, let’s talk taste. I’ll admit, lighters can leave a bit of a funky flavor compared to matches. It doesn’t bother me, but I get why some people might find it off-putting. If you’re one of those folks, you might want to consider a Tesla coil lighter. No fuel, no weird taste. We’ll get into that in a bit.
But if taste is your top priority, sticking with matches might be your best bet.
What Are the Best Features for Weed Lighters
If you’ve decided to go with a lighter for your weed then you’ll need to know what to look out for. Below are the three major factors I think you should keep in mind when grabbing yourself a new one.
Longevity
“If the lifespan of your lighter is something that’s a big deal you’ll definitely want to check out the tesla coil lighters then.”First and foremost is how long these things last. There’s little point in getting yourself a nice lighter if it won’t last very long. Luckily, most weed lighters these days will give you several months of moderate use.
Traditional lighter fluid or butane lighters do have a lifespan though, no matter how big the tank is. That’s a major advantage of tesla coil lighters – they run off of electricity, which means you can recharge them.
Sure the battery will deplete over several years of use but it’s several times the length you’ll get from a fuel based lighter.
If the lifespan of your lighter is something that’s a big deal you’ll definitely want to check out the tesla coil lighters then. Otherwise, fuel based lighters will do you well.
Ease Of Use
If you’re lighting up a blunt this isn’t as big of a deal but if you’re trying to light up a bowl, ease of use is a big thing. How many people on this earth have burned their thumbs or fingers trying to light a bowl with a tiny Bic lighter? Thousands and thousands, I’m sure.“For those of you looking to avoid burned fingers from bowl-lighting, I’d suggest getting something with an angle on it.”That’s why getting something that’s easy to use for lighting up is pretty important.
For those of you looking to avoid burned fingers from bowl-lighting, I’d suggest getting something with an angle on it. It’s amazing how easy it is to get the flame where you need it when you’ve got a bit of a grip and a 45 degree angle.
Another thing to consider is the comfort of the lighting mechanism. Bic lighters are unbelievably uncomfortable to light and that freaking grinding drives me up a wall. There are plenty of lighters out there that have much smoother wheels or have simply replaced them with buttons altogether. That makes it way easier to use and a lot more comfortable.
Price
This one’s pretty obvious, but it’s still worth mentioning. Most basic lighters are super affordable, usually under $20. But some of the specialty ones can get pretty pricey. Fancy Zippo lighters can run you $50 or more.
If you’re ready to splurge, go for it! But if you accidentally hit ‘buy now’ on a $60 lighter, that’s a different story. Always keep an eye on the price tag.
Remember, you get what you pay for. Cheap lighters work, but you can feel the difference with a heftier, quality lighter. Trust me, you’ll appreciate the upgrade.
Looks
Okay, I have to mention this because it’s a big deal for me. A plain old Bic will do the job, but let’s be real—looks matter. I’d happily shell out an extra $15 for a lighter that looks awesome.
There are tons of cool designs out there—dragons, skulls, horses, crazy colors, you name it. While looks don’t affect functionality, they definitely add some flair to your smoking experience.
My Top Lighters for Weed
Below I’ve picked out my favorite lighters that I think work as the best lighters for weed. I’ve got several different types depending on what people are looking for. Below that is a list of what I personally think are super coolest looking lighters. I’ve got awful taste though, so good luck with that.
My #1 Pick: Tesla Coil Lighters Windproof Dual Arc Lighter
This. Thing. Is. So. Cooooool. Seriously, I love it so much. It’s windproof, has a cover, has dual arcs and looks absolutely gorgeous. If you’re planning on lighting up a blunt with a few friends this is something that’ll seriously impress them. It’ll also avoid the lighter fluid taste and you won’t need to worry about it going out if it’s windy.
There is a big drawback though, and that’s that it won’t work for anyone planning on using a bowl, a bong, or any other device with a partially enclosed lighting area. Since there’s no flame there’s no way to heat the area up enough. There is a fun little hack to get around it though – the I-Tal Wick. I’ve got a full section on it below but it’s basically a wick that you use to light your other devices off of. It removes any nasty taste, lasts for a while and is super cheap.
Beyond that though, it’s extremely easy to use. Since there doesn’t need to be any surface-on-surface contact for this to light up (which you’d need in a traditional lighter) they can put the turn-on mechanism anywhere they want. In this lighter it’s just on the side – it’s also extremely easy to press so you don’t need to worry about your thumb being sore from using it a lot.
As we mentioned above, if you’ve had issues with the lighter fluid taste in the past you’ll be pretty content with this. The only concern you’ll have regarding taste is burning the end of your blunt too much. It’ll take a time or two to figure out how long you’ll need to live it on, so be prepared for a bit of ashiness in the beginning. Once you get passed that, your weed should be 100% natural, unburt and un-fuelified.
And look at it… it just looks so cool. Classy, straightforward, simple, effective. The Tesla Coil Lighter is definitely my favorite lighter of the group.
My #2 Pick: Tomolo Silver Color Jet Flame Lighter
Feeling left out with the Tesla Coil lighter because of your smoking device? Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered. The Tomolo is perfect for any device that’s more closed off.
What I love most about this lighter is its fantastic angle. The lighting mechanism branches off at a 45-degree angle from the handle, allowing you to hold it comfortably instead of awkwardly twisting your hand. This means better control and fewer burnt thumbs—a big thumbs up in my book.
However, be careful with how close you get the flame to your weed. The jet flame is instant and very hot, so there’s a risk of burning your stash if you’re not careful. Pay attention and keep the flame at a safe distance.
For those concerned about safety, the Tomolo lighter comes with a cap to cover the lighting mechanism. If someone accidentally hits the trigger, you won’t have to worry about an accidental torching.
And let’s not forget about the look. It might not be as jaw-dropping as the Tesla Coil, but the white and chrome finish is still pretty sleek. It’s a great addition to any smoke set.
My #3 Pick: Pack of 4 Single Jet Flame Torch Lighters
For those of you who like to keep things economical, this set is your best bet. It’s a pack of four single jet flame torch lighters—powerful, long-lasting, and easy to use.
Like the Tomolo, these are jet flame torches, which means they light up fast and hot. In my opinion, these work way better than traditional lighters. Either way, they’ll definitely get the job done and set your stuff on fire.
They’re also really comfortable to hold and use. The angled lighting mechanism makes it easy to point and control, and the button is conveniently placed on the back. You can point it forward with your hand and control the button with your thumb, making it a breeze to light any smoking device.
And the best part? They’re super cheap. Much cheaper than the other options I’ve mentioned. While the Tesla Coil Lighter might save you money in the long run because it lasts for years, these are significantly cheaper upfront and will last you a good while.
My #4 Pick: Zippo Lighters
If you’re looking for a lighter with a bit of style, Zippo Lighters are where it’s at. While my favorite lighter is still #1 on this list, Zippo offers some serious contenders. They have so many styles, you could get lost on Amazon browsing through them all. Trust me, I’ve been there.
In fact, the sheer variety of Zippo designs is why I had to include a “Coolest Lighter” section in this article. It wasn’t part of the original plan, but here we are.
When it comes to ease of use, Zippo lighters hold their own. The lighting mechanism is smooth and much better than some of the cheaper lighters out there. It might be a bit tricky to maneuver around the top of your bowl, but it’s doable. I’d rate these below the jet flame torch lighters in terms of convenience, but if that’s not a dealbreaker for you, it’s all good.
One thing to note: you might notice a bit of that fuel taste when you take a hit. It doesn’t bother me much, but if it does for you, you might want to consider other options.
But seriously, the styles… that’s where Zippo really shines. Having a lighter that looks awesome can’t be overstated—it’s a great feeling!
Coolest Lighters for Weed
And on that subject, here we are. This is the result of an hour long binge looking at lighters on Amazon. Below are some of my favorites that you found. If you find something cooler let me know and I’ll add it to the list – I’m sure I didn’t find all of them.
Open Flame Lighters

Using an I-Tal Wick
For those of you looking to enhance your smoking experience (or need an open flame), the I-Tal Wick is worth checking out. These things are pretty neat—they’re essentially long strings (wicks) that you light first, then use to ignite your other stuff.
If you’re planning on getting a Tesla Coil Lighter, you’ll find an I-Tal Wick incredibly handy. Just light the end of the wick and use it to light your bowl or bong. Easy peasy. You’ll get a clean flame free of butane or any other chemicals.
The big draw here is the natural experience. You get a clean flame, which means better taste and smell. If chemical tastes bother you, this will make your high way better.
Plus, using an I-Tal Wick helps your lighters last longer, especially if you smoke with others. Just pass them the already-lit wick—no need to waste more fuel.
I-Tal Wicks are a fun, green, and natural addition to your smoking routine. You can get 40+ feet for just a few bucks, so they’re super cheap. If you’ve never tried one before, give it a shot. It’s pretty cool.
Wrap Up
Sure, getting a new lighter can be as simple as hitting up the nearest gas station, but it doesn’t have to be. The lighters listed here might cost a bit more, but they offer a much more rewarding experience.
